A Net Brings a Big Smile
A net brings a smile because it stops malaria.

Monauie is a mother of four from Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).  She has worried about malaria since she was a girl; now she fears what this disease might do to her children. Her 3-year-old Samuel is infected with malaria several times each month.

When she learned that bed nets provided by Nothing But Nets supporters would be distributed in her community, she lined up early.

Monauie's smile widened as she received her life-saving nets. Samuel and his siblings will be safe from this terrible disease.

Her gratitude is simple: “We are really very happy to receive these bed nets.”

Nothing But Nets in the Democratic Republic of Congo

In 2007, together with the UN's Refugee Agency, Nothing But Nets supporters sent 39,300 insecticide-treated bed nets to protect refugees in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). A founding campaign partner, The people of the United Methodist Church distributed another 13,000 bed nets in Lumbumbashi.

Late in 2011, together with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), the UN Foundation's Nothing But Nets supported a bed net distribution of 86,000 nets in Kamina and Mulungwishi.  In addition, UMCOR provided 30,000 additional nets for the distribution and then later an additional 86,000 bed nets.

All together, Nothing But Nets supporters have helped send and distribute 259,399 bed nets to the DRC to help prevent malaria.
